Doug Fraser is a self-taught visual artist. From birth Fraser was surrounded by celtic music and dance. In the midst of a world filled with gaelic song and dance Fraser would find his artistic expression with a paintbrush. Born and raised in Inverness, Cape Breton, Fraser has been influenced
by many artists; including Andrew Wyeth, Rembrandt,
Caspar David Friedrich, Alex Colville, Aelbert
Cuyp, J.M.W. Turner and Albert Bierstadt. Fraser's paintings are oil on canvas and can be described as
real with hints of surrealsim.
Artist
Statement
It is essentially a painting of light. The ideal is to show nature in its strength and its simplicities. To
make visible the sublime.
By applying thin layers of paint my goal is to create luminous skies, misty atmospheres, and to create
an evocative feeling in each piece. To give us the impression of a particular moment in time, of a
particular mood, to make us aware of the awe of this privileged moment.
