We would also like to thank Mega Bites Signage of Inverness for putting it all together and for putting up with Carrie and I. We would also like to thank the Cape Breton County Centre for Art and Design for their continued support of the arts. And of course for all you people out there that reviewed the many different sign designs and for the many people that gave their input on our signage needs.

We hope you like them.

We have two up and four more to go...wish us luck...

When I got to the studio I thought.. well I should put the wheel barrel in the shed. When I turned the corner I met Mr. Bear just ten feet away. He was not a bit shy. The kids put this together for me. I hope you enjoy.

Bears are common this time a year. Just waking up and a little hungry. Soon they will go up the back mountain where the berries are.

Here I am with a film crew in my studio. Who would of thought. James and Darcy made the process easy and I thank them and the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design for another fun an admittedly somewhat nerve racking opportunity...read more here

Below I am getting a mike adjusted and the boys get the camera organized. The technology really is something. They shot about an hour of film which somehow they will widdle down to five minutes. Can’t imagine I had that much to say! Really I prefer to let my art do the talking. It was good fun though and I look forward to seeing the finished product...I think.

This is an opportunity created by the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design and ECBC. They are filming select artist from all over Cape Breton. The goal is to create a 5 minute film on each artist that can be used to promote the Artist of the Island.

A near-island bathed in salty sea air and brushed by steady winds, the provincial landscape can be shadowed by dark clouds one moment and lit by a brilliant summer sun the next. From Land and Sea presents over 65 of the province’s contemporary landscape artists and their works. Each profiled artist appears with a short bio and artist’s statement, along with examples of his or her art. The artists covered in this book represent a wide range of styles prevalent in Nova Scotia landscape art today. With a foreword from Ray Cronin, director and CEO of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

Dee Appleby is the manager of the Fox Harbour Gallery in Wallace, NS. She is past president of the Cobequid Arts Council, a frequent contributor to the weekly arts news column in the Truro Daily News, and an avid collector of Nova Scotia art. Dee lives in Truro with her husband, Brian, and two daughters.

First, my travel companions were artisans and industry persons from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I. who shared my passion for art and the role it plays in our world. Secondly, as a group we met with and toured many artisan studios, craft industries, museums and galleries in the Ma., and Vermont area. We had an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss common industry concerns. I certainly learned a number of things including that we have much to contribute artistically to the world.
The
power of nature is amazing. Bridges were damaged or lost, roads were left with craters in the middle and campers were washed out to see. Loch Ban Road is back to normal thanks to the NS Department of Highways and our landscaping continues to evolve.
